TYPE IV-A
TYPOGRAPHED

Carmine-Red overprint on severed Message and Severed Reply cards

The carmine-red variety is known on both the Message and Reply halves of these cards. It is the product of worn type font and overinking in the final stages of the printing. The ink is actually no different from the ink on TYPE IV: both appear exactly the same under ultraviolet light. In normal light however, the heavy inking may give the impression of a slightly different color.

V10R-Aa, UY5a variety

The figure "8" is thicker than normal, while the "5" has become impacted with dried ink and is filling in at both top and bottom.
